After three-odd
years of resisting some "newer" technologies in order
to keep this site friendly to older browsers and people paranoid
about security I have finally decided to use cookies on this site.
What is a cookie?
I use cookies
to provide you with a better experience while browsing my site.
You can obviously view any cookies on your computer but this page
will also allow you to view and manage most of the cookies I drop
here.
Below you will
see the cookie's name in bold, followed by a description
of the cookie, a text box with it's current value and, when appropriate,
a button you can use to clear the cookie or change its value.
cart
This cookie keeps your shopping cart details. There is
a comma delimited list of items, each with five parts,
the image number, quantity, product code, price and size.
For example,
21124.1.c.79.16x4
means
image #21124, one c-size photo, costing A$79 and 16x4"
in size.
Note
that none of your personal details are stored here
(or in any other cookie), when you submit the secure
form in the giftshop checkout PayPal handles all the
payment details.
customgal
This cookie keeps a record of the images you have selected
for your custom gallery or light
table. This is a comma-delimited list with your
chosen name as the first value, followed by several numbers
indicating the images you have selected.
filter
This cookie remembers the location and category you have
chosen in the FOTOfinder. There are two comma-seperated
values in the format "location,category"
Location
will be something like "uk-ldn" for
UK-London. Category will be something like "wl-do"
for wildlife-domestic
So
"uk-ldn,wl-do" means domestic animals
in London.
An
asterix means "all locations" or "all
categories", eg. "*,wl-do" means
domestic animals anywhere.
If
your last search was a keywordsearch
this cookie will be null and the keyword will be stored
in the keyword cookie.
keyword
This cookie remembers the keyword or photo number you
typed in the FOTOfinder. It will be either words or photo
numbers eg. "london boat" or "182 2000
23456".
If
your last search was a location/category search
this cookie will be null and the location and category
will be stored in the filter cookie.

in areas like the shopping cart. It is a comma-delimited

wedge showing the range of grey tones you should be able
to see on your screen to view the images properly.
This
cookie is used to disable or enable this startup screen...
yes
will disable the screen. no
will enable the screen.
What
is a cookie?
Cookies are titbits of information stored on your
machine. They can't do anything to your machine and
can only be read by the web site that put them there.
Cookies
are used to keep track of things like your name so
a web site can say "Hello Fred" every time
you go there.
My
reasons for using cookies are detailed above where
I describe the use of each cookie I "drop"
onto your computer.
Cookies
can be disabled by your browser and you don't need
them to get a lot from this site, but many of the
new features I'm adding can only work with the help
of cookies.
