These are the best nature photography
sites I have found on the web, I keep the list short because
I believe it should be exclusive and also because I want
it to be current, with all links valid.
Note that these links will
invoke a separate browser window.
James
Kay. James has been a photographer for 20 years and
is an advisor to "Outdoor Photographer", one
of the world's leading photography magazines. All this
shows in his work, there's some spectacular images on
his site, both colour and mono.
Bill
Atkinson This guy's
good. There's over 200 images on this site so I haven't
looked at them all yet but those I have seen were outstanding.
Bill is using digital printing to produce fine prints,
I'm convinced this is fast becoming a practical way to
go.
Steve
Bloom A rhino charges the camera, a Probiscus monkey
leaps over a setting sun, a baby Orangutan reaches up
to touch its mother's mouth; these are some of the 300
odd stunning wildlife images to be seen on Steve's site.
Depicting animal behaviour rather than just static portraits,
these images are well worth checking out.
David
M Barron. David is an "assignment
and stock" photographer and his work shows this with
images of just about every kind from what seems like half
the countries in the world. Colourful Guatemalans, monochrome
Orcas, and great colour wildlife. Check out the White
Ibis shaking itself dry.
Jim
Brandenburg is one of the
worlds leading nature photographers (if you've ever read
national Geo or a wildlife/outdoors mag you've almost
certainly seen Jim's work). This site still has some areas
under construction but the images are great and it looks
like there will be some interesting interactive features.
Andrew
Brown landscape photography. Andrew has a great collection
of panoramic landscape images from around Australia. One
that really caught my eye is a great shot of a breaking
wave with rocky headland in the background.
Charles
Cramer. Sometimes
you encounter a site that just yells class from the very start,
Charles Cramer's site is one of them. Charles has been featured
in View Camera and Photo Techniques, taught at the Ansel Adams
workshops, artist in residence at Yosemite etc etc. The site design
is simple and the images first class, have a look.
Allen
Davis Fine Art Nature Photography - poster-size prints
of landscape photography, wildlife photography, sports
photography.
Grant
Dixon. Grant is a prominent Australian photographer with some
fantastic images. He is well published and has spent time in Antarctica.
Peter
Dombrovskis Australia's
foremost landscape photographer. Peter died recently while
on a walk in his beloved Tasmania. His images survive in the
form of calendars, cards and books, all of which can be viewed
and purchased at this site.
Geoff
Dore Geoff is an award winning
nature and landscape photographer based in the UK. His work
appears in calendars, magazines, greeting cards etc. He has
won many competitions including one of the Wildlife Photographer
of the Year categories (no mean feat as this competition attracts
thousands of entries from some of the world's best photographers).
For a good laugh check out the "Bit of fun" page.
Ken
Duncan. Ken Duncan
is Australia's leading practitioner of the panoramic landscape
style, he has three real galleries and a range of products
from fine prints to multi-media CDs.
f.45
Images by Christophe Cassegrain. Some of the best large format
colour images I've seen of the American west. Vibrant colours,
subtle hues and nice simple images.
The
Fatali Gallery. The
images of Michael Fatali. This is a simple and very classy
site with absolutely stunning large format colour photos of
the American west.
Mark
Gray (no relation). This Australian Landscapes website
showcases an online gallery of Australian panoramic landscape
photography for sale, by fine art landscape photographer Mark
Gray. His landscape photography range includes open and limited
edition prints.
The
Luminous Landscape.
This site features the images and articles of Michael Reichmann.
The images are great and the articles informative.
The shot of the lone photographer on the dunes is just great
and really sums up what landscape photography is like.
Mark
Raymond Mason Photography A
very well designed site with many great nature photos, by
a self-confessed "gypsy and jack-of-all -trades".
The images on Mark's site are mostly abstracts of natural
subjects, and a joy to browse.
Geoff
Murray.
Geoff hails from Tasmania and with a backyard like that you'd
hope for some good photos. Geoff is well up to the task of
photographing one of the world's outstanding landscapes, some
of the images here are just brilliant.
William
Neill Stunning images,
but then that's what you would expect from a bloke with William's
track record. Based in Yosemite his images have been used
by the best publications, National Geo, Sierra et al. He is
also a contributor to "Outdoor Photographer".
Robert
Rankin Robert is one
of Australia's most prolific wilderness photographers. He
has a number of books to his credit and produces calendars,
diaries, cards, posters, even music.
Brian
D. Riebesell - NaturExposed Photography.
A very well done site, beautiful colour images of Colorado
and some short tutorial articles.
Galen
Rowell needs no introduction
to outdoor photography types. He is basically a legend in
adventure imaging and has some nice shots as well.
Scenic
Light features the
images of Bob Evans mostly taken in Yosemite, The Sierras,
Mono Lake etc. Info about workshops, stock photos and plenty
of good images. Most (all?) images have a brief commentary
which I think is a good feature for a photo site. I'm sure
we all want to know a bit about the making of the image.
Howard
Slavitt. Excellent
images from the American west. Deserts, coasts, snow, the
whole shebang. Beautiful images, but then I wouldn't
link to the site if they weren't.
Adam
Spence. Adam is only 16 years old but shows a lot of promise
as a nature photographer. His site is well laid out, and the
photos pretty good as well.
Taun's
home page A fascinating
site about photography with a really good section on large
format.
Wise's
Wilderness Geoff has
a good range of images of Kosciuszko, Tassie, Budawangs etc.
He has written quite a lot about his feelings for the Australian
bush and photography, much of which is similar to my own thoughts.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing some of these images
for real and they are stunning. I'm afraid that we have a
long way to go on the Web before we can properly display photography.
