#00082, Snow Wave Meets Tor
I used to be a fairly good cross-country skier, but on this day I had been practising my technique with a full back pack, something I was not used to.
The day was not going well, the extra 50-odd pounds played havoc with my balance, and I spent a good part of the day with my face in the snow.
While resting I decided to drop my burden and explore the huge granite tors that give the Ramshead Range its character. I walked around the rocks, saw this amazing snow drift, and ran back for my camera.
In 1994 the developing tank I was using made it almost impossible to produce evenly developed negatives. No matter how I agitated, pre-soaked, or held my mouth, there would be uneven sections along the long side of the negatives. Unfortunately this unevenness is usually in the sky or other large area of plain tone and therefore extremely difficult to fix.
I've since made my own tank that works just fine, but this negative was processed in the old one and is very uneven, almost impossible to print well, and as such I seldom tried.
However, now that I use a "lightroom" rather than my old darkroom I'm finding that I can resurrect many negatives that were difficult to print, and this is one of them.
