#00173, Tranquil Light
I made this shot at first light, once again, in Noosa National Park. It's of a creek flowing through the beach towards the sea, however there is very little to give any scale and many viewers have trouble figuring it out.
The rocks are only a few inches long but many people actually think they're seals resting on a beach. Go figure, I can't see it, but then I was there.
This is one of the few of my shots that are cropped and there is a whole story about that.
The strangest thing about this image is the water. As is my custom I used a long exposure here, one minute to be precise, and I expected the water to be completely blurred because it was moving. However, as you can see it's dead sharp.
I believe that this is because the creek was very shallow and therefore the ripples I could see were actually sync'ed to the creek bottom and always in the same place, thus causing a "standing wave" affect. I could probably have used a twenty-minute exposure and got the same image.
This is more abstract than usual for me, I don't normally like photos that are too abstract but I love this shot mostly because of it's simplicity and the beautiful mid-tones.
