#00241, Budawang Overhang
Monolith Valley is perched high in the Budawang Ranges, you climb all day then pass through a narrow cut in the cliffs, climb a chain and you're in a marvellous valley surrounded by beehive-shaped mountains.
It's a little like those lost valleys of the movies where you half expect dinosaurs to still roam.
Of course about the only things that roam here are bushwalkers and the occasional landscape photographer.
While I was roaming I saw this overhang and climbed the rock spur that lead to its base. It was full sunlight and normally the contrast range would be difficult to handle, even using Zone System techniques, but on this occasion the light was bouncing off the sandy floor of the overhang and nicely filling in the shadows.
There has been many a suggestion about the shape of the rock and what this tells about the photographer...frankly I don't get it :-)
