#00287, Solvieg's Lullaby
As usual I was up before the sun on this morning. I had spent a relatively fruitless couple of hours high on the rocks surrounding Hidden Valley and finally given up when the sun was fairly high and the light no good.
As I climbed down to my camp I noticed that the valley was still fog bound but all I could think of was that I would be cold while eating breakfast.
I dropped my equipment on the ground in front of my tent, looked up, saw this tree in silhouette, and thought "Yes".
Why Solveig's Lullaby? I was playing Peer Gynt while in the darkroom and as the image on the proof print appeared so did the haunting soprano's voice and muted strings of this tune (also known as Solvieg's Song).
As the image has mist shrouded mountains and a dark moody look I felt it matched the somberness of the music.
