#00311, Geehi Sunset

While camped at the base of Mt Townsend, Australia's second highest mountain, I decided to wander over to a nearby ridge. From there I could see clear into Victoria.

The dark cliff in the photo descends a thousand feet or so into the Geehi Valley, a very demanding walk I believe (I'm not crazy enough to find out first hand).

At this time of day you get the atmospheric regression of the hills as they march further and further into the haze, a visual affect I've always liked. For this reason I seldom use a filter to reduce the haze, although on this occasion the contrast in the clouds indicates that I may have. I don't know for sure because my notebook from this period has been lost.

I waited for the sun to just peek from below the clouds before firing the shutter.
