#00365, Stone Floating
On viewing the context photo you may wonder why I was photographing a rock in the shade, when there was a bright red cliff right next to me.
I actually prefer simple photos of this nature with beautiful mid tones, and I've always liked the affect you get when looking through water like this.
As your gaze starts close to your feet, the angle of incidence is large, and you can see all the underwater features.
Raise your vision though and the angle decreases, you see less and less because the sky reflection takes over. Eventually you cannot see any underwater features at all, the rock appears to be floating on the surface.
This to me is a far better photo than any I would have made of the nearby cliff. A photo of the cliff (in colour) would have been much more dramatic, but I usually prefer the subtlety of a simple black & white image.
