#10403

Wombats will normally run a mile on sighting a human. I spotted this one from afar, dropped my pack and noisy rain jacket, and stalked a path through the bushes until I figured I was close.

Then I lay on my belly and inched sideways, gradually getting a clearer view as I emerged from the bushes. When I thought I'd pushed my luck far enough I started exposing film.

Over a period of several minutes I photographed the little fellow as he grazed and moved closer.

Initially I wanted a tighter shot, but he never got close enough, so I panned to the left and included the rock outcrop. This puts the animal in its environment, and probably makes a better photo anyway.
