The waves actually came right passed my camera position. I was forced to fire the shutter and leap for a rock ledge, leaving the tripod to get drenched.

I made some photos with foaming water right up to the camera, but with this one I fired the shutter a little early, thus leaving the patterns in the rock revealed.

On inspecting the results I decided that this was the better option.
