The trick with a shot like this, ie. looking into the light, is to hide the sun behind an object. In this case a conveniently placed tree.

If your camera has a depht-of-field preview feature (and it should, all good cameras do) stop the lens down to check for flare. Flare becomes much more obvious with the aperture closed down.
