Normally I wouldn't include items such as the disjointed and bare branches at the top of this photo. However I find these Banksia seed pods to be quite ugly, and I wanted to enhance that look.

By including these elements I made the photo uglier and therefore, by association, the Banksia as well.

Another decision made before taking this photo was to find the ugliest Banksia, with their gaping "mouths" none of them look great, but I had to find one that was particularly misshapen then pick an angle that enhanced it's asymmetrical nature.
