|Nature Photography by Rob Gray :: Image #20698|
It was getting late in the afternoon of a long day driving the truck in outback South Australia when I saw about six wedge-tailed eagles (wedgies) perched in trees about 100 metres from the road.
Naturally I stopped, grabbed a camera and approached the birds as carefully as possible. Four of them flew away, but two stayed, and this one allowed me to get within just a few metres.
I made nearly 40 images but this photo, taken just as a puff of wind ruffled the feathers on the back of his neck, is my favourite.
