After hours searching for a non-existent campsite we'd heard about on the track into Millie Windie station we finally gave up and returned to the nearest semi-flat and clear spot we could find to camp for the night.
However I had spotted a colony of fruit bats so before setting up camp I returned to their location.
For about 20 minutes I edged towards the colony through the long grass, every time they became agitated I stopped and let them settle down. Eventually I was within shooting distance and set up my camera, only to find that my flash batteries were dead.
I returned to the car, changed batteries and started all over again. Fortunately the bats had become more tolerant of me and my second approach was a lot faster.
